Assetto Corsa – First Porsche previews

Back in June Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games shocked the sim racing world when they announced that they had secured a Porsche AG Licence for their Assetto Corsa Racing Simulator.

Now Kunos Simulazioni’s Licensing Project Manager Marco Massarutto has posted the first teaser screens of some of the upcoming content. The first screenshot showcases a clay render of the famous Porsche 935/78 Moby Dick.

The Group 5 Porsche 935/78 Moby Dick was powered by a six-cylinder twin-turbo 3.2 L water-cooled engine delivering up to 845 hp and giving the car a top speed of 366 kph. With Jochen Mass and Jackie Ickx behind the wheel, the 935/78 won the Silverstone 6 Hours test race. Sadly enough the car finishing 8th in the 1978 Le Mans 24 after having some serious engine problems.

The second teaser is showing us a render of what looks to be the headlight of a Porsche 718 Boxster.

In honor of their famous mid-engined racecar of the 1950s and ’60s, Porsche developed a 718 version of their midengine roadster series Boxter and Cayman. The standard  718 Boxster is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged flat-four producing 300 hp while they 718 Boxster S uses a 2.5 liter turbocharged  engine that produces 350 hp.

The sim racing community is eager to learn which Porsche models will make their way into the game. With the teasers of the 935/78 and the Boxter 718, we at least know of two models that will be added to the Assetto Corsa content. We eagerly anticipate news of the other Porsche models yet to be announced.

For the past 12 years, Porsche exclusively granted its gaming license to the American Electronic ARTS (EA) publisher who develops and publishes games under several labels. While many game publishers out there have tried to sub-license the Porsche brand, up and till now, only Turn10 Studios of Forza Motorsport fame were able to acquire this highly desirable license.

The Porsche AG license is no small accomplishment for a relatively small developer such as Kunos Simulazioni.

The Porsche branded content will become available as exclusive DLC content on both the PC and forthcoming console editions of Assetto Corsa. Porsche A.G and Kunos Simulazioni agreed to a collaboration and will create 3 high-quality DLC packs that will contain a mix of street legal and racing models of the prestigious German sportscar brand.
