Assetto Corsa Mixed Reality – Drifting at the Transfagarasan highway

After last week’s Project CARS based Mixed Reality VR video, Marcel Pfister now went back to the Assetto Corsa simulator to record some road car action. In this latest Mixed Reality video, Marcel gets behind the wheel of his virtual BMW M4 to drive the scenic Transfagarasan mountain road.

The Transfagarasan highway or Ceausescu’s Follyas is also called is known as one of the most spectacular roads in the world, the 90km long mountain road connects Romania’s Transylvania with Muntenia region. The road became very popular with petrolheads after the famous TopGear TV series declared it the best road trip in the world.

Many sim racers out there will never have the opportunity to drive this amazing mountain road for real, so strapping on the Oculus Rift CV Virtual Reality headset might just be the next best thing. Marcel demonstrates how to navigate the mountain in Assetto Corsa VR drift style.

(In this latest production, Marcel experimented with some setting to enable him to record a higher image quality. While succeeding in doing so, it has resulted in a lower frame-rate. Marcel hopes to fix that in the next video.)

Marcel’s recording technique is only a visual representation of the lap, and Marcel does not see his own hands or steering wheel during the actual run. Nevertheless, it gives us a good idea how amazing sim racing will become once Augmented Reality becomes a fact.

When Marcel published his first video, it became an instant viral YouTube hit within the sim racing community. For those who missed the previous video’s here’s the list including Marcel’s excellent Mixed Reality tutorial.
