iRacing’s New Laser Scanner – Leica ScanStation C10.

When iRacing.com launched its online subscription-based racing service in August 2008, they immediately made it clear that iRacing was a long-term project, and that the company would invest in making the simulator a success. The last few years iRacing.com invested in additional staff and workflow to speed up the production time of content for the simulator.

To  be able to create highly accurately modeled vehicles and tracks, the development team makes use of laser scanning technology. Lately iRacing purchased a new Leica ScanStation C10. This modern laser scanner combines all-in-one portability with features such as Full 360º x 270º field-of-view, high accuracy, long range (300m @90% reflectivity), and high scan speed (50k pts/sec).

Associate Producer Kevin Iannarelli and Vice President of Art & Production Greg Hill talk about our newly and improved laser scanner which we will use to scan future cars and tracks. The first projects using the scanner will be the new Nascar Toyota Tundra and the Chevy Silverado models.
