Laurens Vanthoor talks Vesaro simulator Training
Vesaro is known as a high end Sim Racing rig manufacturer. As most companies that are producing Sim Racing hardware, it is always a nice marketing move to partner up with a famous name out of real world racing scene. Vesaro partnered up with Belgian race driver Laurens Vanthoor, who is the 2014 Blancpain endurance Series Champion, and a factory Audi driver.
In this video my fellow countryman Laurens Vanthoor talks about using the Vesaro simulator as a training tool, and explains the benefits of the integrated DBOX motion technology on the rig. Laurens used two Vesaro systems. The Stage 9 and the Vesaro I Evolve Extreme Special Edition extreme version (Stage 10) that features triple 55 inch Curved OLED wrap around displays offering 165 inches of OLED screen space. The stage 9 features the latest 3 inch motion tech and the special edition rig features the latest 6 inch motion technology.
Ed: While this is a super nice setup, it does have one major flaw, that puts me in doubt of the actual benefit as a training tool. Using the LG 55 inch Curved OLED screens is a very bad choice because of its awful input lag. The input lag (as measured using a Leo Bodnar tester) in [Game] mode came in at 55ms and therefore does not lend itself to a responsive gaming experience, let alone an accurate simulation. Outside the Game mode this screen returns an unplayable result of 138ms.
In previous videos by Vesaro, the on screen steering wheel was on, and it was very visible how bad the input lag is on these screens. After those video’s where removed from youtube, the more recent ones do not show you a virtual steering wheel. This makes us believe that Vesaro is aware of the problem, and the screens are more of an esthetic choice than a performance one . Keep in mind that the Vesaro I Evolve Extreme Special Edition is sold for €57.645,- ($73.889).
