Project CARS vs Real BMW @ Laguna Seca

It has been a while since we last posted a comparison video showing the realistic look of the Slightly Mad Studios Project CARS game. AdrianF1esp edited a comparison video showing us the Project CARS version of the BMW M3 GTS GT4 at the American Laguna Seca circuit side by side with its real life counterpart.

As Adrian already stated in his video comments, it becomes very clear that in the not so far future, we will not be able to distinguish real from virtual when it comes to game footage. With the ever increasing power of our PC’s and especially the graphic cards, we will not have to rely on textures anymore. We will see more and more materials rendered in real time, and therefore create a much more lifelike lighting and shading effect. We are not there yet, but platforms such as the Slightly Mad Studios Madness game engine, already show us that we are not far of.

It has to be said that the graphical quality of Project CARS is unrivaled at the moment. Not meaning that all Sim Racers will agree, because we all might have different tastes when it comes to style. It fair to say that the Madness engine seems to get the most horsepower out of our systems. It has been debated that the recourses given to the Project CARS eye candy might have an influence on the performance of the physics part, but i highly doubt it.

While developed on the PC, the main market for this Slightly Mad Studios title is without a doubt the next gen console scene. One would expect that within the world of unified hardware, the available processing power is easy to level out between the recourses given to graphics, sound and physics. The average console will probably be more interested in detailed looks anyway. That said, a decent simulator on a gaming console could change the little Sim Racing world we used to know.

PC system used in the video:

  • CPU : Intel® Core™ i5-3550 @ 3.7GHz
  • GRAPHIC CARD: Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OC Edition 2GB
  • RAM : 8 GB GSkill DDR3 1600
  • STEERING WHEEL: Logitech G27

Project CARS by Slightly Mad Studios is targeted to be released starting November 2014 for the PC, XBONE, PlayStation 4, Steam OS and WiiU systems.
