World of Mass Development – Understanding the Hype (EmptyBox)

Now that Slightly Mad Studios have successfully made their Project CARS racing game available to the masses, EmptyBox takes a deeper look at how this game became the most talked about driving game within the community.

When the Project CARS development started, Slightly Mad Studios introduced the “World of Mass Development” platform. The initial idea was to let the developers rely on the power of the community by letting them fund and steer the development of the game. Without going into the mechanics of the crowd funding system, it immediately seemed a big success ending up with over 80,000 members who had in some financial form contributed to the project.

EmptyBox was a WMD member of the game, but nevertheless takes a clear-headed look at the “World of Mass Development” system and shares his views on the hype it created.
