SimRaceway – 2012 Pagani Zonda R Released.

After debuting at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, this track-oriented iteration of one of Italy’s most exotic hypercars was initially primed for a paltry production run in 2009, before, to the rejoicing of deep-pocketed autophiles around the world Pagani announced it would make more available in 2012.

Despite its many similarities to its older sibling, the road-legal Zonda F, 90% of the Zonda R’s components are completely new. A longer car, its wheelbase has been stretched by almost two inches to increase stability, while its bodywork complete with huge rear wing has been altered to achieve maximum downforce.

Packing a 737-bhp, 6.0-liter V12 borrowed from a race-tuned Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR, the R is also quicker than its big brother. Mated to its six-speed sequential gearbox, the AMG-produced engine can take this 2,359-lb racer to a top speed of 218 mph, racking up the first 60 in just 2.6 seconds.

With only a handful of Rs in existence (and none of them road legal) you’ll do well to spot one of these in the flesh, let alone drive it. Luckily, however, you can buy a Pagani Zonda R of your very own right now on Simraceway!
