Assetto Corsa – Unloading famous Porsches – Somebody has to do it

When Kunos Simulazioni started work on the Assetto Corsa racing simulator, nobody expected it to become the runaway success it has now become. The small Italian developer released an early-access version of their new racing sim in November 2013 with the release version following on 19 December 2014. Besides delivering a beautifully crafted next-gen racing title for the PC, Kunos Simulazioni also succeeded in bringing their title to the consoles, turning it into a fully fledged multi-platform product.

Also on the content side, Kunos Simulazioni pulled a few surprises out of the hat. After having partnered with the Italian prancing horse brand for the Ferrari Virtual Academy development, Kunos Simulazioni succeeded in acquiring an official license that would bring the most famous Italian Supercar brand to the Assetto Corsa stables.

Following this spectacular Ferrari coup, Marco Massarutto, who is the licensing manager at Kunos Simulazioni, astonished the community by securing what always seemed to be an impossible license to obtain. For 12 years, the German Porsche brand kept an exclusive contract with Electronic Arts, denying other developers from using models from the German sports car brand which were in turn using RUF Automotive licenses as a substitute.

In June 2016, Kunos Simulazioni announced a close and official partnership with the prestigious German car manufacturer. Besides developing some virtual car models for the Porsche driving experience program in several Porsche race centers and dealer events worldwide, Kunos Simulazioni also obtained the license to bring no less than 21 Porsche models to the Asseto Corsa racing simulator.

The official Porsche license consists out of three separate DLC packs containing 7 Porsche models each. Kunos Simulazioni will also release the Porsche Panamera, Macan, and Cayenne models as free content, bringing the total number of licensed Porsche’s to 24.

By now we all know the Assetto Corsa development team takes enormous pride in bringing us the most accurate and immersive virtual renditions of the cars we all dream about driving. In order to make this possible, the dev team has to research each vehicle in depth to ensure the highest degree of accuracy when bringing these virtual cars to the community. While this could all be done by acquiring the needed data from the manufacturers, nothing can beat a little hands-on experience. As an example, Kunos Simulazioni has shipped a truckload of famous Porsches to their R&D office wich is located at the Italian Vallelunga racing Circuit.

Recently, the core Kunos Simulazioni team had the opportunity to unload a selection of spectacular Porsche models, including the 24H of Le-Mans winning 1987 Porsche 962C and 2015 Porsche 919 Hybrid. As the cherry on the cake, the truck also housed the Porsche 918 Spyder as featured in the Porsche Pack DLC Volume 1. This beautiful Porsche did a record-breaking 6:57.00 Nordschleife lap back in 2013.

It has been said, that they had to remove Marco Massarutto from the cockpit with a crowbar…
