The first true superstar of the WRC era, the Lancia Stratos built on the success of its predecessor, the Fulvia , and helped to establish a glorious rallying dynasty for the marque. Sculpted by celebrated Italian designer Marcello Gandini, its roots can be traced back to the Stratos Zero concept car, which was exhibited at the Turin Motor Show in 1970. However the mud-slinging monster that eventually emerged to terrorize WRC rivals in the mid-70s bore little resemblance to its fantastical forebear.
