Assetto Corsa – The Cars Of The DRM Revival Mod

As a little boy, yours truly was infected with the autosport virus after visiting a DRM Gruppe 5 race at the Belgian Circuit Zolder track. From that day on, until today, motorsport has been a passion that brought me to many racing circuits all over the world. Getting older is no fun, but as a dedicated racing fan, I feel blessed to have seen the original Gruppe 5 monsters in their natural habitat. In the 70′ and early 80′, the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft featured some of the most amazing cars and races I have ever witnessed. Awesome days indeed.

The DRM modding team is a dedicated group of hardcore group 5 fans who set out to create a quality virtual version of the awesome GR.5 machinery. The first DRM mod originated on the rFactor platform. When rFactor 2 was announced, plans were made to bring the mod to the updated ISI platform. Sadly enough, the modding team was confronted with the less beautiful side of the modding scene. With bad modding ethics, mod ripping and payware mods becoming common practice, thing were going from bad to worse. After numerous content rips and unofficial releases that contained stolen parts of the DRM mod, the DRM Modding team decided to abandon the rFactor 2 project.

The good news was that the team continued developing the mod for private use. In January 2015, The DRM Modding Team proudly announced that they had decided to bring their DRM Revival Mod to the massively popular Assetto Corsa Racing Simulator. The mod for Assetto Corsa was scheduled to be released in Q1 of 2017. That said, the DRM Modding Team also stated that the mod will only be ready when it’s ready.

For those who are not familiar with this awesome modding project, check out some more DRM Revival posts on Bsimracing.

Today, DRM Modding Team member and 3D artist Sovers shared some very exciting new render screens of the cars that will make up the highly anticipated DRM Revival mod for Assetto Corsa.

The render scenes show us a selection of meticulously modeled vehicles which will be the stars of the DRM Revival mod, featuring the fire-breathing Group 5 cars as they were raced from 1972 to 1985. The cars in the mod will be dressed with historically accurately liveries of which many became iconic and are still well known in today’s racing scene.

If all goes as planned the initial release should feature the Porsche 935 K3, Porsche 935 k1, BMW 2002 Turbo, BMW 320S, BMW M1 Turbo, Zakspeed Escort, Zakspeed Capri Turbo, Lancia Beta Turbo, Toyota Celica LB Turbo and the Facetti/Finotto 308 Carma.

Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft – Gruppe 5

The DRM Revival Mod will recreate the fast and spectacular DRM Cars that were raced from 1972 to 1985. The DRM Group 5 series was divided into 2 groups. Division 1 was made up by iconic cars as the Porsche 935 Turbo, Lancia Beta Monte Carlo Turbo and the Zakspeed Turbo Ford Capri’s with engines ranging from 2000 cm ³ up to 4000 cm ³ and Division 2 cars with less than 2000 cm ³ like the Zakspeed Ford Escort, BMW 320i.

Many of the drivers have become household names in the international racing scene. Hans Heyer, Rolf Stommelen, Klaus Ludwig, Manfred Winkelhock, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Harald Ertl and Toine Hezemans, to name a few.
