2016 BMW M6 GT3

The 2016 BMW M6 GT3 racing car is based on the road-going BMW M6 Coupé and replaces the very successful BMW Z4 GT3, which had been in action since 2010. The new BMW GT3 flagship is powered by a race modified 4.4-litre V8 engine with BMW Motorsport M TwinPower Turbo technology.

The engine pumps out a respectable 585 hp to the rear wheels via a transaxle six-speed sequential racing transmission. That is slightly less than the road-going ‘Competition’ branded M6. However, only weighing in at 1,300 kilograms, and fitted with an aero package that is optimized in the BMW wind tunnel, the GT3 is the quickest of the brothers.

The BMW M6 GT3 lines up for customer teams at the 24-hour classics at the Nürburgring and in Spa-Francorchamps, at the 12 Hours of Bathurst in Australia, at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau, as well as at the best GT race series in the world. The spectrum ranges from the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring in Germany, through the ADAC GT Masters, the European Blancpain GT Series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in North America and the Japanese Super GT Championship in Asia, to the Australian GT Championship.

The GTLM version of the BMW M6 GT3 is adapted to the ACO regulations. It’s fielded by BMW Motorsport in the GTLM class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
