2020 Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans – The Full Race Highlights & Results

It was hailed to be the biggest sim racing event of all-time, and as far as yours truly is concerned it surpassed my expectations. The first-ever official 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual In association with the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), and Motorsport Games can be called a very successful sim racing event.

While the real-world 24 Hours of Le Mans is postponed to 19–20 September 2020, the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual brought together a huge selection of professional racing drivers and sim racers, competing together for 24 hours in a 50-car field on the legendary French endurance track using the rFactor 2 racing simulation platform by Studio 397. In total, 200 Pro racing drivers, and sim racing drivers from 37 different countries raced simultaneously on 170 different simulators.

The 2020 Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans was broadcasted live via a selection of prestigious TV networks across 57 countries worldwide and was presented by living Le Mans legends, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish. The English commentary was done by Martin Haven, Hayley Edmunds, and Ben Constanduros.

More than 200 competitors of which 115 were licensed real-world racing drivers battled it out in both an LMP and GTE racing class to get their respective teams to the virtual finish line. 30 LMP teams raced the rFactor2 ORECA 07, Gibson, while the 20 teams’ strong GTE field was represented by the Aston Martin Vantage, Corvette C.7R, Ferrari 488 GTE, and Porsche 911 RSR. All the racing action was monitored by Eduardo Freitas who is the official FIA World Endurance Championship Race Director.

After 24 hours of fierce battles on the virtual French tarmac, the Rebellion Williams Esport #1 Oreca LMP, piloted by Louis Deletraz, Raffaele Marciello, Kuba Brzezinski, and Nikodem Wisniewski crossed the finish line in first place. The #93 Porsche 911 RSR clinched the GTE class victory with Nick Tandy, Ayhancan Güven, Joshua Rogers, and Tommy Østgaard behind the wheel.
