Hungary-based Marcell Baranyai is a freelance game developer who was previously working at IO Interactive and Ubisoft. He mainly creates games and game-related tools in his spare time. In his own words, he does it mostly for his own enjoyment.
However, this passionate hobby leads to some wonderful things we might soon all get to enjoy. Currently, Marcell is working on a Retro 1980s Formula 1 racing game named “Grand Pro Circuit”. This racing game is inspired by the classic and much-loved Grand Prix series of games by Geoff Crammond.
Even better, Marcell managed to bring his indie game to the Steam platform. Make sure to support him if you can by checking out his Steam Wishlist Page. You can also follow the development via Marcell’s X account.

While I call it a racing game, it is safe to say that the development is taking simulation into account. Marcell uses his own homebrew 3D engine and custom physics engine, granting him the technical and creative freedom to build the game for both an arcade and a simulation audience.
For the moment, there is not yet a release date scheduled.
Grand Pro Circuit Feature List

Dynamic Racing Experience
- Light conditions depend on the geo-location and exact race time
- Moving sunlight and shadows affect local air and track temperatures
- Wet/dry transitions, moving rain clouds, and dynamic rain coverage, local weather
- Dynamic drying of the racing line after rain
- Different grip conditions over the track surface, rubbered and dirty areas
- Erosion of vehicle components due to inappropriate or too aggressive driving, like vibrations caused by flat spots, makes suspension failures more likely, or inefficient cooling may lead to engine problems
Immersion
