Project Motor Racing – Circuit Zolder Screenshots

Straight4 has published some new in-game screenshots of the Belgian Circuit Zolder that will be part of the Project Motor Racing track portfolio.

This track is pretty special for me personally, as it is my home circuit, about 20 minutes away from where I live. It’s the place where I contracted the autosport virus, since I was 8 years old. Over the years I visited the track roughly 600 times for numerous amazing motorsport events.

I am very pleased with the detail Straight4 put into their recreation of this Belgian racing gem.

Circuit Zolder:

Circuit Zolder, is a 4.011 km race track in Heusden-Zolder, Limburg Belgium. The track was built in 1963 and hosted the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix between the 1970s and 1980s before Spa Francorchamps took over the event.

The track hosted numerous national and international races such as the Belcar, FIA GT, WTCC, Supercar Challenge, V8 Superstars, FIA Truck Grand Prix, Euro Boss, BRCC, Historics, and many more. And let’s not forget the annual 24 Hours of Zolder.

Back in the 70’s and early 80’s the track was also part of the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft including the now iconic Group 5 cars.  In 2006, the track was altered slightly to accommodate the Champ Car World Series Grand Prix it hosted in 2007.

The nature of the track is about rhythm, braking finesse, and minimal margins.

The important turns are:

Terlamenbocht: A flat-out right-left flick; exit curb decides whether you rocket onto the back straight or bury the car in gravel.

Eerste Eenvoudige Linkse: “First simple left” in name only; you brake lightly while the car’s still dancing from the preceding kink. Nothing simple here. Not even the ride into the scenery if you mess it up.

Villeneuve Chicane: Post-’82 right-left added for safety; ride the sausage curb hard to gain tenths or hesitate and become a sitting duck for the brave and committed chasing you.

Bolderbergbocht: Zolder’s bravest corner, a full-commit right-hand sweep under the footbridge (prototypes may require a sanity lift). Stand on the bridge and it’ll take you no time at all to figure out which drivers are there to win, and which are there collecting a paycheck.

Sacramentsheuvel: Innocent in the dry, treacherous in the wet when puddles gather on the camber.

About Straigh4:

At the end of 2022, Ian Bell (SimBin, Blimey Games, and Slightly Mad Studios) announced that he had founded a new studio, branding named Straight4Games or just plain Straight4.

At this point, Straight4 had revealed they were working on a new racing simulation with the project name GTR Revival, later renamed to GTRevival and now Project Motor Racing, which should become available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.

Project Motor Racing is scheduled to become available in 2025. You can check out some more GTRevival / Project Motor Racing news here.
