Project Motor Racing - Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S

Straight4 added another classic racer to its car lineup for the upcoming Project Motor Racing simulation.

This time the Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S, a front engine V8 monster that took part in the 1999 Le Mans 24h and the ALMS.

The Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S will join a selection of classic racing cars from yesteryear, such as the Mosler MT900R, the Lister Storm, Gillet Vertigo, Saleen S7-R, Morgan Aero 8, TVR Tuscan T400R, Audi R8 LMP900, Marcos Mantara LM600, and the Lola T70 Mk3B GT

As usual, keep in mind that all media included represents a work in progress.

Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S

The Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S was a distinctive Le Mans Prototype (LMP) race car built by Panoz in 1999. It stood out in its era due to its unconventional front-engine layout, a rarity among purpose-built prototypes, which typically placed the engine in the mid-rear. This unique design gave the car a striking appearance, reminiscent of its predecessor, the Panoz Esperante GTR-1, from which it inherited many styling cues.

The roadster was powered by a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, derived from a Ford block and developed by Élan Power Products (also owned by Don Panoz). This engine produced around 620 bhp at 7200 rpm and 538 lb-ft of torque. All that power was transferred to the rear wheel via a longitudinally mounted X-Trac 6-speed sequential gearbox.

The Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S did pretty well, winning the 1999 Petit Le Mans. In 2000, a Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S won the 1000km of Nürburgring, beating factory teams from BMW and Audi, and in 1999 it competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, achieving a 7th place finish.
