rFactor 2 – Marussia-Cosworth MR01 Released.

[AFG_gallery id=’318′]

ISI just released the Marussia-Cosworth MR01 for rFactor 2.

Mod Manager has the mod named Marussia, in software it will be under Formula ISI 2012.

ISI states they have a number of things in-development.
The pre-release screenshots of the MR01 showed sharper logos on the car than you will see with this car when you are running it (if you look closely, that is), that’s because the tech isn’t ready yet, but the car is.
Template should be posted early next week.

The MR01 will be a part of a series mod we will release fairly soon, which will include another officially licensed track (Silverstone) and some generic 2012 spec cars (minus KERS) to go with the Marussia.
Components will also be released.

Marussia-Cosworth MR01 Facts:

Driven by veteran Timo Glock and newcomer Charles Pic in 2012, the MR01 helped the team move ahead of HRT and challenge Caterham for 10th-place in the Constructors Championship, eventually losing out in the final race.
The first car designed by the team itself after previous seasons using a computer aided design process, the car proved to be reliable, and this gave great benefit when taking the fight to the Caterham-Renault team. Using the lower-powered Cosworth 90° V8 customer engine, the team also went without a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for the whole season, and this led some pundits to believe Marussia had the better chassis overall.

The car finished in 12th-place in both Singapore and Brazil, and between both drivers only failed to finish six races. The team took 11th-place in the Constructors Championship.

Manor Motorsport, a British motor racing team formed in 1990 by John Booth, has had some success running big names in lower formulas, including Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen. Manor applied to participate in the 2010 Formula One World Championship in partnership with design services from Nick Wirth, and were accepted, but sold naming rights to Virgin before the season began. The 2010 season saw the Virgin Racing team finish in last place, with a best finish of 14th-place in Malaysia and Japan.

For 2011, Marussia took partial naming rights for the team, which they then called Marussia Virgin Racing. The team finished in last place again, with a best result of 14th-place in Bahrain. The team also split with design services from Wirth once it became clear they needed to do their own car designs.

Marussia realized during 2011 that everyone was still calling the team by the Virgin name, so purchased full naming rights for 2012. So with John Booth still at the helm, the team moved forward, also hiring ex-Benetton Pat Symonds as designer. The 2012 MR01 would challenge for 10th-place in the championship, eventually finishing 11th, while setting the team up nicely for the 2013 season.

The Marussia-Cosworth MR01 has lower levels of downforce than many of the top teams had, and this means when driving it moves around quite a bit. Fast reactions are needed, and for many, finding the limit of the car may be an enormous challenge. It may also be fun!

Drivers will also need to take care of the brakes, as the MR01 will suffer brake problems over a full race distance at some circuits. An adapted driving style and engine braking will help, but it’s important to note that maximum braking can only be applied from braking zones over 300km/h, the brake must then be eased off as the aerodynamic load decreases. It also may not be possible to use 100% braking pressure at all circuits, so reducing brake pressure in the setup is also an option.

Tire management is also critical in a long race. You will need to minimize how much you spin the tires to reduce thermal degradation, and if you do pass a critical level, it may be difficult or impossible to bring the tires back to the desired level for best performance. Watch those temperatures closely and then back off to bring them under control, you will lose less time over an entire run.

The car is available in a single configuration, as provided by the Marussia F1 Team.
