SimRaceway – 2012 Audi R8 LMS ultra Released.

Launched in 2009, the R8 LMS (Le Mans Series) was designed for GT3 racing. It would go on to win 155 races and 12 titles before Audi raised the stakes even further in 2012 with the introduction of the LMS ultra.

Bearing a close resemblance to the production R8, this racer is over two inches lower than its supremely-capable road-going relative. Its skin is largely made from carbon-fiber composite, while carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic doors have been added to the ultra to further lower its weight. Its rear wing profile and pneumatic gearbox control are both inspired by the legendary R10 TDI.

Borrowed from the original R8, its 5.2-liter V10 has been race-tuned to produce 570 bhp, which allows it to shoot to sixty in just 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 mph. Due to GT regulations Audi’s trademark all-wheel-drive system is absent, but this hasn’t stopped the car, in its various guises, winning a plethora of GT championships, with the ultra triumphing at both the 24 Hours Nurburgring and 24 Hours of Spa in 2012.
