The Ford GT40 is an American-British built endurance racer that managed to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times, from 1966 to 1969. The GT40 was originally designed to compete against the Ferrari’s that were dominating the endurance races.
The Ford GT made its debut at Nurburgring in May 1964 followed up by the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The cars failed to finish both races. In 1966, the Ford GT40 MKII dominated the Ferrari’s at Le Mans with a one, two, and three finish. The GT40 was powered by a selection of Ford V-8 engines ranging from 4.1 to 4.9 liter. The cars prepared for the 1966 Le Mans win were fitted with the 427 cu ins FE motor and Ford built T44 transaxle.
