Kunos Simulazioni, Supernova Games, and 505 Games have posted a nice batch of preview screenshots of the Peugeot 306 Maxi that will be part of the Assetto Corsa Rally V0.4 Release.
Alongside the Peugeot, Update 0.4 will most likely also introduce a famous Subaru. Apart from the new content, the developer has stated that V0.4 will mainly be a physics and bug fix update.
At the time of writing, no exact release date was announced, but if all goes to plan, we should see the update released in late April 2026. I will keep you posted when more details are shared.
Peugeot 306 Maxi
The Peugeot 306 Maxi is widely regarded as one of the most charismatic and effective rally cars of the late 1990s. Competing in the F2 Kit Car category, it was a “giant killer” designed to exploit technical loopholes that allowed high-revving, front-wheel-drive (FWD) cars to outperform the heavy, four-wheel-drive (4WD) WRC machines on dry tarmac.
The little rally monster is powered by a XU10J4RS 2.0L naturally aspirated 16-valve engine tuned to reach over 10,000–11,000 RPM. It produced roughly 280–305 hp, which, combined with its lightweight build (approx. 960 kg), was more than enough to compete with the turbocharged WRC cars.
Because it was lighter and more nimble than the 4WD cars, the 306 Maxi was incredibly fast on dry tarmac rallies like the World Rally Championship (WRC) Tour de Corse and Rallye Sanremo. It also dominated the French Rally Championship, winning titles in 1996 and 1997 with the legendary Gilles Panizzi behind the wheel.
