Gran Turismo 7 Release Postponed To 2022

Gran Turismo 7

Released back in 2017, Gran Turismo Sport was the latest and current edition in the popular Gran Turismo franchise.

Last year in June, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Polyphony Digital officially announced the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 title as a follow-up to GT Sport. While they had not yet revealed an official release date, some early adverts and preview media seemed to imply that the new GT edition was scheduled for release in the first half of 2021. Somewhat later official reports by license partners hinted at a launch in the second half of 2021.

Sadly enough, it now appears that this will not be the case. During an interview by GQ Magazine, with the president and chief executive officer of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, it became clear that the Gran Turismo 7 release schedule has been pushed back to 2022. The reasons given for the delay are all related to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic which has had a negative impact on the development timeframe of GT7.

A Sony PR representative stated: GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.
