Gran Turismo The Movie – Official Sneak Peek

It is safe to say that Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo video game series is one of the most successful racing game franchises of all time. So popular in fact that the racing game itself will be the star of an upcoming featured film.

During the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Polyphony Digital and Sony revealed a sneak peek of the upcoming movie, however, no plot details have been revealed.

The movie is based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough’s journey from racing gamer to professional racing driver. For most sim racers out there, this story will need no further explanation. For those who are in doubt, look up the Nissan and Gran Turismo GT Academy history.

In 2018, after five years of work, the initial production of the Gran Turismo movie was scrapped and went back into development in May 2022, wrapping up all filming by December of the same year.

The GT movie is produced by Columbia Pictures, PlayStation Productions, Trigger Street Productions, and 2.0 Entertainment. Written by Jason Hall, and directed by Neill Blomkamp who you may know from blockbusters such as District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. The cast list features some famous names such as David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Djimon Hounsou.

The Gran Turismo movie is scheduled for release in theaters around the world on August 11, 2023.
