iRacing – BMW M8 GTE Coming Soon

iRacing.com confirmed that the BMW M8 GTE is in its final stages of development and will be arriving in iRacing soon. The development team is targeting a Season 2 release if they receive approval from the manufacturer. For now, we can enjoy some early in-game screenshots of the German endurance racer.

The BMW M8 GTE will join the iRacing GTE class which currently includes the Porsche 911 RSR, Ford GT, and Ferrari 488 GTE. Furthermore, iRacing also reported they are testing races with seven different car models. Currently, iRacing supports a maximum of six different cars on track.

The BMW M8 GTE is an endurance GT car constructed by BMW Motorsport. It was developed in late 2016 and made its competitive début in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and FIA WEC for the 2018 season, and thus marking BMW Motorsport’s return to 24 Hours of Le Mans after a six-year hiatus.

The M8 GTE weighs in at only 1,220 kg (2,689 pounds) thanks to extensive use of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components. The flagship endurance racer is powered by a front-mid mounted BMW P63 turbocharged V8 engine, the motorsport variant of the S63 motor found in roadgoing BMW’s such as the F90 M5, as well as the roadgoing BMW 8 Series. The car is reported to deliver more than 500 horsepower.
