At the beginning of August, iRacing teased a picture of the BMW M Hybrid V and the Cadillac V-Series.R cars already available for the online racing service, accompanied by two vehicles yet to be revealed. Hinting at IMSA cars, it was clear that this only left the Porsche 963 and the Acura ARX-06 as contenders in the 2023 IMSA Gran Touring Prototype class.

Now iRacing confirmed that the Porsche 963 (Type 9R0) will be coming to the iRacing service alongside the 2023 Season 4 build release.

The Porsche 963 is a hybrid LMDh sports prototype racing car designed by Porsche and built by Multimatic, to compete in the Hypercar and GTP (Grand Touring Prototype) classes in the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA SportsCar Championship, respectively. The 963 is Porsche’s first new prototype race car since the 919 Hybrid, which retired from competition in 2017. The 963 is designed to be more affordable than the 919 Hybrid, making it more accessible to private teams.

The 963 name draws inspiration from the Porsche 956 and Porsche 962 that raced in the 1980s, which also competed in American and European racing series. The car is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine with twin turbochargers, combined with an electric motor. The total system output is 500 kW (680 PS). The car weighs around 1,000 kilograms.
