Sector 3 Studios is getting ready to deploy the December 2020 update for their RaceRoom Racing Experience title. From the looks of it, it will be a big one, as the Swedish company already confirmed a number of new cars and tracks to be featured alongside the update.
Previously, Sector3 Studios already confirmed the Volkswagen Scirocco Group 2, the Audi R8 LMS GT2, the Audi R8 LMS GT4 , and Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo will become available this month.
Today, the Swedish studio added another car to the December release list in the form of the fully electric Volkswagen ID.R.
The Volkswagen I.D. R also known as Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak, is a prototype fully electric vehicle designed as part of Volkswagen’s I.D. Project, and included within Volkswagen’s R series of cars designed specifically for competing in motorsport events. It is the first electric racing car designed by Volkswagen.
The e-car is powered by two motors (1 per axle) to generate a permanent four-wheel drive with active torque distribution. Powered by Lithium-Ion batteries, the motors deliver 680 PS (500 kW; 671 hp).
On 3 June 2019, the ID.R driven by French racing driver Romain Dumas, used 24.7 kWh to break the electric vehicle lap record on the Nürburgring with a time of 6:05.336, cornering at up to 3.49 G. The ID. R reached speeds of 273 km/h (170 mph), for an average of 205.3 km/h (127.6 mph). In 2019, the I.D. R set a new record for the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb clocking in at 39.90.
The Volkswagen ID.R first popped up as RaceRoom news at the beginning of 2019, when Volkswagen in partnership with Sector 3 Studios organized the Volkswagen ID. R Challenge. The ID. R Challenge winner won a Volkswagen Ice Adventure, while the runner-up won a Volkswagen Driving Experience.
