Sheer joy for BMW in the DTM season opener at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, Augusto Farfus (BMW) crossed the finish line as the winner after 42 spectacular laps. For the Brazilian, it is his second victory in the DTM. His fellow BMW driver Dirk Werner finished second, 3.6 seconds down. Christian Vietoris (Mercedes-Benz) rounded out the podium after the season opener in third place.
Behind Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz) and Bruno Spengler (BMW), Timo Scheider (Audi) finished the race in sixth place. The Audi driver had started the first race of the season from pole position. In his first DTM race, Marco Wittmann came ninth and scored his first points in the drivers’
