Back in September 2016, Image Space Incorporated (ISI) announced a strategic partnership with the Dutch software group Luminis to accelerate rFactor2’s development. The partnership resulted in a new company named Studio397.

One month later, Studio397 published its first Development Roadmap, in which they announced that a rF2 DX11 engine and Virtual Reality support for the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift were in the works.

Now, Studio397 posted the first in-game previews of rFactor 2 in glorious VR. In order to ensure future compatibility, Studio397 decided to base its VR implementation on OpenVR, which is a software development kit and application programming interface developed by Valve for supporting the SteamVR and other virtual reality headset devices.

If all goes well, we might see the first rFactor 2 VR related public release, appear early May 2017.
