A Look At The New Logitech G RS H-Shifter

Logitech G dropped a new Sim Racing related product for its G Racing Series ecosystem in the form of the Logitech G RS H-Shifter.

Marketed as a mid-range product, the Logitech G RS H-Shifter is a massive leap forward from the older Logitech Driving Force Shifter. The 7-speed (+ Reverse) shifter unit addresses the durability, feel, and customization shortcomings of its predecessor.

The product supports cross-range compatibility with the PRO/RS50 base and G-Series Wheels. Keep in mind that a Logitech G Racing Adapter is required when racing with a G Series on console. Note: On console, gear support may be limited to 6+R depending on the specific wheel and game.

Needless to say, the G RS H-Shifter can also be connected as a standalone device to a (Windows) PC via a USB cable.

Hall Effect Sensors

The most significant technical upgrade is the move to Hall Effect contactless sensors. Unlike the potentiometers in older models that eventually wear out or gather dust, leading to missed shifts, the RS H-Shifter uses magnetic fields to detect gear position.

Construction

The new shifter is made out of steel and aluminum, providing a weightier, more mechanical throw. Inspired by real-world transmissions, the G RS H-Shifter features a 7-Speed Layout fitted with a Push-Through Lockout, which prevents you from accidentally initiating 7th gear while going for 5th, or reverse.

Customization and Ergonomics

By using an M8 x 1.25 mm threaded shaft, you can now customize your shifter with aftermarket shift knobs or shaft extenders.

Mounting

The included Table clamp, made out of metal and plastic, can accommodate both the RS H-Shifter and RS Shifter and Handbrake. Those who want to attach the shifter or handbrake to a racing rig can securely mount the shifter to the chassis using the included Bolts.
