Finnish manufacturer Simucube has updated its Direct Drive wheelbase lineup with the Simucube 3 Ultimate.
Simucube calls the Simucube 3 Ultimate the absolute pinnacle of commercially available direct drive force feedback wheelbases. It represents a significant architectural shift over the lower-tier Sport and Pro models, as well as the older Simucube 2 generation, and is primarily designed for professional sim racers, real-world driver training, and top-tier esports enthusiasts. The Simucube 3 Ultimate is now the uncompromising flagship of the third-generation Simucube family.
Where the Simucube 3 Sport and Pro models utilized the highly refined Surface Permanent Magnet (SPM) motors, the Ultimate uses an industrial-grade IPM spoke-type motor. The magnetic flux is packed much more densely in this geometry, so the motor responds physically faster, has drastically lower rotational inertia, and runs cooler and quieter under sustained heavy torque loads.
In production, every individual Ultimate wheelbase is laser-scanned to record thousands of physical data points. Simucube uses this data to map a bespoke software digital twin of that exact unit into its control algorithm. The software continuously corrects for minuscule real-world physical imperfections, completely eliminating the tiny “cogging” or graininess sometimes felt at very slow wheel rotations.
The QR mechanism has been completely redesigned with the LightBridge technology, a fully contactless system that uses high-speed infrared communication for data and magnetic induction for power. Therefore, compatible Simucube “Link Wheels” do not require batteries, and do not have physical connector pins that can wear out or snap during violent crashes. It communicates via the Simucube Link Hub, an external breakout box that manages communication for all your Simucube peripherals (wheel, ActivePedals) and shields your PC from electromagnetic interference, and takes up just one USB port.
The Simucube 3 ecosystem runs on the Tuner 3.0 software and brings game telemetry-driven feedback effects. The Ultimate goes beyond just computing the physical resistance of the steering column, adding real-time signals directly from the sim engine. You can actually feel the distinct vibration pulsing of ABS, engine RPMs, and immediate changes in tire road texture right through your hands.
The wheelbase also comes with a metal Control Box that houses the master power switch, an emergency stop, a standby button, and a rotary encoder dial for custom mapping.
