Kunos Simulazioni, Supernova Games, and 505 Games had already posted a nice batch of preview screenshots of the Peugeot 306 Maxi that will be part of the Assetto Corsa Rally V0.4 Release. Now they showcase the second car that will be added to the rally game. The 1993 Subaru Impreza 555 Group A.
At the time of writing, no exact release date was announced, but if all goes to plan, we should see the update released in late April 2026. I will keep you posted when more details are shared.
Subaru Impreza 555 Group A
The 1993 Subaru Impreza Group A spec is more than just a rally car; it is the machine that transformed Subaru from a manufacturer of quirky farm vehicles into a global performance icon. Replacing the larger, heavier Legacy RS mid-way through the ’93 season, the Impreza 555 became the definitive blueprint for the modern rally car.
The 1993 Subaru Impreza 555 Group A was developed to compete in the WRC by Prodrive in Banbury, UK. The car was powered by a Turbocharged Intercooler 2.0L EJ20 Flat-Four “Boxer” engine. It delivered approximately 300 hp (Restricted) and 450 Nm of torque. All that power was transferred to all 4 wheel via a 6-speed Manual, and active differentials.
The name and the legendary Blue and Yellow livery came from State Express 555, a cigarette brand owned by British American Tobacco. Because of tobacco advertising bans in certain countries, the “555” logos were often replaced with crescent moons or simple dashes, but the color scheme remained the most recognizable in motorsport history.
The car made its first appearance at the 1993 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland. Driven by Ari Vatanen, it finished 2nd on its very first outing, proving it was a contender immediately. It also catapulted Colin McRae to superstardom when he used the 555 platform to dominate the mid-90s rally world.
