F1 22 – French GP Hotlap At Circuit Paul Ricard

With the 2022 French Grand Prix being held this weekend, EA Sports and Codemasters have published a new hotlap video, showcasing F1 22, the official FIA Formula One World Championship racing game.

We get onboard in Esteban Ocon’s Alpine A522 Formula 1 car for a hotlap at the Circuit Paul Ricard.

The Circuit Paul Ricard is an FIA Grade 1 racing circuit built in 1969 at Le Castellet, near Marseille in the south of France. The track opened in 1970 and became the setting for many national and international motorsports competitions, including 14 Formula 1 events, numerous Bol d´Or motorbike endurance races, and 12 World Motorbike Championship Grands Prix. The days as a top international circuit were numbered when the F1 Grand Prix switched to Magny-Cours, while the Motorbike GP headed to Le Mans. Finally, in 2018, the circuit was announced as the host of the resurrected French Grand Prix, meaning F1 was back after nearly 30-year of absence.

The track is characterized by its long Mistral straight (1.8 km, 1.1 mi) and elongated track design. In 1986 the track was modified to shorten the circuit, by adding shortcuts through to the middle of the Mistral Straight. This shorter circuit is also known as the GP short circuit and is 3.813 km (2.369 mi) long.

Circuit Paul Ricard offers 167 possible configurations from 0.826 km (0.513 mi) to the full 5.861 km (3.642 mi). Its flexibility and mild winter weather mean that it is used for testing by several motorsport teams, including Formula One teams.

The track is known for its distinctive black and blue run-off areas known as the Blue Zone. The runoff surface consists of a mixture of asphalt and tungsten, used instead of gravel traps, as common at other circuits. A second, deeper run-off area is the Red Zone, with a more abrasive surface designed to maximize tyre grip and hence minimize braking distance, although at the cost of extreme tyre wear. The final safeguard consists of Tecpro barriers, a modern improvement on tyre barriers.
