As we know, these days, most younger professional racing drivers are also avid sim racers. While Max Verstappen might be the most famous ambassador for our hobby, the same goes for Formula One Chaùpionship leader Kimi Antonelli.
At home, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 driver uses a bespoke Formula Pro simulator by UK-based Cool Performance. Kimi needed a racing simulator for training high-intensity, off-schedule track memorization and muscle memory. But most of all, to have fun on iRacing with friends.
In this video, the Cool Performance founder Oliver Norris walks us through the simulator built for Kimi. Every component is tuned to Kimi’s specifications, from the in-house pedal system to the personalised carbon fibre detailing. Like most of the racing drivers, Kimi did not want a full-motion platform, but a sim with a high-end tactile feedback system. While it’s hard to pinpoint the price of a custom build system, Kimi’s setup is rumoured to have cost €52,000 / US$ 60,000.
