RacingCUBE – Affordable Motion Platform Racing Simulator

RacingCUBE – Affordable Motion Platform Racing Simulator

Danish based Tommy Frank and Steffen Hansen of FaseTech set out to produce an affordable motion platform for racing games that is both compact and cheap without compromising the experience.

Now that the prototype of the RacingCUBE is ready and has been tested intensively for the past six months, they have started a Kickstarter funding project to realise their dream and start manufacturing the RacingCUBE in large quantities.

When the idea of the so-called RacingCUBE came to mind, the goal was to manufacture a high-performance motion platform at a fraction of the cost of other Motion Simulators. This has lead to the creation of a unique and very good performance/price ratio, compact size motion sim, featuring 360 degrees of rotation, adjustable center of rotation, and optional sway and surge function.

As with all motion platforms, a set of fast actuators are the single most important element in making a successful motion simulator. The RacingCUBE  is fitted with three very fast (RC3) servo actuators and is designed to be able to provide maximum performance without the need of bolting the simulator to the floor.

The RC3 can provide a perfect one-to-one ratio between vehicle rotation and simulator rotation. The RC3 gives you 600 degrees of rotation, but the standard setting is 360 degree to prevent it from winding up the cable. With the parallel wheel configuration, the center of rotation is between the wheels. That means you are sitting in front of the center of rotation, and it will not only rotate your body but drag it in the opposite direction of the rotation. That means it makes both the yaw and sway effect at the same time.

The RacingCUBE is controlled by dedicated motion control software, that will receive regular updates by means of plugins and optimizations. FaseTech is planning to retail the RacingCUBE just as a base unit that is ready to accept a selection of the most popular wheels and pedals on the market.
