SimRacingGirl – Thomas Jackermeier Interview – The Direct Drive Wheel
One of the highlights of the 2017 edition of the Sim Racing Expo at the Nürburgring, is without a doubt the newly revealed Fanatec Podium Series Direct Drive wheel.
SimRacingGirl is on the scene and interviewed the freshly shaved SimRacingBoy, Fanatec CEO, Thomas Jackermeier. They talk about the new wheel, the features, the release dates and more. Fanatec brought two nicely camouflaged working prototype models to the show. The new scratch designed plug&play DD1 and DD2 wheelbases will differ as far as maximum torque is concerned.
It is safe to say that the following months will be exciting times for both Fanatec and the Sim Racing community, as the new line of products will eventually include wheelbases, steering wheels, pedals, shifters, and handbrakes. Thomas even hints that in the distant future, Fanatec will even start to focus on the full-blown cockpit market.
For now, no exact release date is known, but Fanatec is planning to start the Direct Drive wheel pre-production this October. So it should not be too long before potential customers can place their pre-order.
