After a decade of track triumphs with the C5-R and C6.R GT1 , the birth of the C6.R GT2 in 2009 represented a slight departure from the proven methodology developed by General Motors and Pratt & Miller. The change, effectively forced by the widespread replacement of the GT1 category with a unified GT class containing GT2's stringent homologation requirements, resulted in a racing Corvette that was more closely related to its road-going cousins than any of its recent predecessors.
